What is Pilates Reformer

At Pilates Kula we teach Reformer Pilates classes using both traditional and contemporary methods, on state of the art, resistance-based machines. We believe in an integrated approach to total wellness, and have designed our classes not only to lean and tone the body but to increase control, balance, precision and strength. Our classes target deep postural muscles, improving core stability to support the spine and reduce back pain. You'll begin lying down on the Reformer and move through seated, kneeling and standing exercises, addressing the major muscle groups. Each class will take you from isolation to integration, as you flow from simple to complex movements to rebuild and reenergise body, mind and spirit. Our passionate teachers are the best in their field and small class sizes mean that every student receives personal attention within the dynamic environment of a group class.

Pilates Align Reformer Classes

This is a great place to start for beginners or for those who would like to refresh on technique. It is designed to get you comfortable setting up the reformer and teaching you the basic movements and positions. The emphasis is on breath, form, alignment, balance, stabilisation and core engagement. Lengthens and strengthens muscles without building bulk. Ensure you bring a pair of socks and enjoy.

Dynamic Pilates Reformer Classes

Expect your strength, balance and endurance to be put to the test with advanced sequencing, higher resistance, balance challenges and even tighter transitions, all leading to the ultimate muscle quivering total body workout. The workout is more intense, the pace is faster. As an intermediate participant, you will know when you are struggling and be able to self-regulate your exercise level more than a beginner, you will have increased body awareness, understand your weaknesses and be able to recognise when your body is being overly challenged in an exercise

New to Pilates?

First time to Pilates? Should I do a group class or private lesson

Start with the Pilates Align Class

That depends on the individual. Ninety nine percent of our new clients do just fine attending a Beginner class. With a maximum of 7 clients per class, the teacher can modify exercises to suit differing abilities. Although still quite intense, classes are broken down using simple exercises so all individuals get the most out of their workout. If you have chronic back pain, are coming back from an injury or are pregnant, a one-on-one session would be best to assess your situation.

What class do I start with

What class do I start with?

What class do I start with?
You must always start with a Beginner class, even if you have done Pilates elsewhere or are quite fit. Pilates Kula uses a lot of small muscle groups, you’ll be surprised how challenging the class might be and may need to build up your strength.

How many people do a class

Smaller classes more attention

With a maximum of 7 clients per class, our small group classes allows our Trainers to focus on each individual to achieve maximum benefit.

How often should I attend a Y Pilates Class

30 MINUTES

Exercise is such a personal thing. How often you train will depend on your fitness level, how your body adapts to the training and how well your body can recover. It also depends on your fitness goals and what you do outside of  Kula classes. We recommend starting with no more than two to three classes per week and increasing from there.

Cancellation Policy

At Pilates Kula our class sizes are small and can fill quickly. This is why our Cancellation Policy exists which all clients must be adhering to:

Group classes: Cancellations need to be made more than 12 hours prior to your class beginning (morning or evenings). We understand that sometimes unforeseen circumstances can arise but we have to be strict, fair and consistent with all clients across therefore NO exceptions will be made.

Private Sessions: A 24hr cancellation policy applies. NO exceptions.

Can I still do a pilates reformer class if I have an injury

It will depend on your injury and your road to recovery. You may need to get a medical certificate from your GP/Physio before you can attend, or start with a private class to assess if classes will be appropriate in the future. It’s best to speak to one of our Trainers before participating in a class to make sure you’re not putting yourself at risk of further damage.
